The Cape Cobras maintained their 100 percent winning record in the 4-Day Series with a five-wicket victory over the Dolphins on Thursday.
Ashwell Prince’s men bowled the visitors out for a second-innings total of 282 on the morning of the final day to set themselves a target of 171.
But the Cobras didn’t have it all their way at Newlands against the visitors’ bowling attack.
Opener Pieter Malan failed to add to his first-innings 153, trapped leg before by Robbie Frylinck’s first ball of the fourth-innings’ second over.
And they were 20/2 after Zubayr Hamza (7) was caught behind off the bowling of Eathan Bosch.
It didn’t get better for the Cobras as they were reduced to 81/4 before the alarm bells went off and they got down to business with Aviwe Mgijima and Kyle Verreynne getting cracking.
The pair added 70 runs for the fifth wicket to leave the Cobras just 20 short of victory before Verreynne edged a Keshav Maharaj delivery to Dane Vilas after a solid knock of 46.
Aviwe Mgijima (43*) and Vernon Philander (15*) took the team home and top of the table after four matches.
