South Africa coach Hugo Broos called for the real Bafana Bafana to stand up as they geared up for Friday night’s African Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo in Group K.
And his manne responded by klapping their Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium visitors 5-0 thanks to a Teboho Mokoena double, a Lyle Foster strike and more goals from Bathusi Aubaas and Iqraam Rayners.
Broos couldn’t hold back his delight afterwards, saying: “It’s amazing the way we started the game and the way we played football. It was something that I always wanted to see from this team. We did it in Afcon and now also. It was really fantastic.
“Five goals, good football, modern football, high rhythm in the game and that shows again what a group of players I have. It’s a group of players I am proud of. These guys know when they have to perform.
“We had decompression in December and we talked about it and you could see the guys wanted to make a statement and they made a statement with good football.”
Bafana travel to Congo for the reverse leg tomorrow, with Broos adding: “It’s only three points, Tuesday it’s another game and the five goals don’t count…”
