Four local artists and a boy band are working together to raise funds for a little cancer fighter from the Cape Flats.
Tamzin Adams, eight, was diagnosed with Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma (JPA) in November 2017.
JPA is a rare childhood brain tumour and, in most cases, it is benign and slow-growing.
Mom Andrea Phillips, 35, was forced to leave her day job at a retail store to take care of Tamzin, and says they are battling financially.
“Tamzin needs 24-hour care and I worked long hours at a grocery store. She had a biopsy on 10 December and stayed at Red Cross Hospital until 24 December. It’s been a hectic journey since then,” says Andrea.
The frail little girl eats a specific diet to help sustain her health and Andrea says they use public transport to get her to hospital three times a week.
Andrea has, meanwhile, gotten a weekend job as a bartender at a nightclub, and it’s there where saxophonist Donveno Prins and his wife, Ronel, heard of the family’s plight.
Donveno says: “Ronel told me she wanted to do something for Tamzin and my heart just smiled. I just feel a whole new sense of purpose when I use my talent and time for a cause like this.”
Donveno roped in some more artists who were only too happy to help.

Diva Salome says: “This is a much needed cause across our country and I wish that more people would come on board.”
Former Idols winner Karin Kortje adds: “As a mom this story obviously had a huge effect on my feelings. But this is one brave girl and I salute her.”
The Making Music For Tamzin benefit concert takes place at The Address on Friday and entry is R100 per person.
Artists on the bill include Donveno, Salome, Karin, Tye Platinum and The Pedestrians.
