The man accused of murdering 13-year-old Rene Tracy Roman from Lavender Hill in March last year was handed two life sentences on Monday in the Western Cape High Court.
The trial started and ended in less than two hours.
Judge Robert Henney described accused, Andrew Plaatjies, 51, as a coward who had intentionally prepared to rape the young girl.
Rene-Tracy, disappeared on March 10 2017 when she went to a shop to buy a packet of chips.
A cleaner found the child’s body hidden under a mat inside a hokkie at the back of Plaatjies’ girlfriend’s home in St Agatha Crescent in Montague Village on March 21 2017.
