Everyone knows dite is life and now Vangate Mall is going to attempt to make the greatest gatsby there ever was.
On Saturday, the shopping mall is cooking up a 50-metre long version of the Cape Flats’ favourite dite and they are inviting shoppers to join them.
Marketing Manager for Vangate Mall Ghouwa Waja says they will be keeping it traditional except for the rolls, which will be two metres long each.
“We will be setting a record for the largest gatsby of 50 metres. We’re going to do an interlocking gatsby and going traditional by having three different types of the gatsby to accommodate everyone, that is polony, vienna and steak,” Waja says.
She says they will be making use
of caterers, and 150kg of potatoes
will be used for the slaptjips, along with tomatoes, onions, cucumber
and lettuce.
“No sauces will be placed on the gatsby, once you get your slice you can add a sauce of your choice or go traditional with the atchar.”
She says the aim of the event is to raise funds for a local orphanage and people can donate R20 towards their dite.
“Our promotion team will be handing out 12 centi metre pieces of gatsby with a Coke for a donation of only R20. We really hope to raise enough funds to assist our charity beneficiary,” Waja says.
The building of the gatsby will take place from 10am to 12pm in the food court, and afterwards shoppers can get a taste of true Cape Flats heritage - the humble gatsby.
