A mom was murdered after she apparently asked for a slukkie dop.
She was repeatedly stabbed while her young daughter helplessly watched.
Nondi Dyani, 36, walked with her seven-year-old daughter to the communal toilets in W-Section Makhaza on Friday afternoon.
On the way back, she walked past the suspect, a female, and other people who were drinking beer.
And according to her aunt, Noludwe Patala, the deceased still made a grappie with the group.
Patala says: “She said, ‘can I have a sip of beer? It's too hot’. She didn’t even stop to hear what the response was. She kept on walking.
“Suddenly the suspect grabbed her and repeatedly stabbed Nondi in front of her child.
“When my niece was on the ground, the knife-wielding woman chased the seven-year-old girl.”
The traumatised little girl alerted her ouma who rushed to the scene.
The aunt continues: “When her the ouma got there, she picked Nondi up and tried to wrap her with a head wrap, thinking she could stop the bleeding.
“At the time Nondi was lying face down in a pool of blood.”
Noludwe says when she arrived at the scene after 5pm, she asked to see her niece.
She adds: “She died in her mother’s arms. She was stabbed in the neck.
“The suspect was seen throwing the knife away and managed to escape between the shacks and she is still on the run.”
The aunt says Nondi had suffered a stroke when she gave birth to her two-year-old son.
She explains: “She tried to fight (her attacker) but because she had a stroke, she wasn’t strong enough.
“Her son was left disabled and they frequented the hospital and November would have been the last appointment.
“She told her mom she wanted to go to the Eastern Cape, but the mom advised that she waits for next month.
“No one knew this would happen because my niece never got into fights and this was really unexpected.”
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi says the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.
Swartbooi reports: “Makhaza police responded to a complaint on Friday, 11 October 2024. Upon their arrival at the crime scene close to a local supermarket, they found the body of a 36-year-old female who sustained a stab wound.
“The suspect fled and is yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack is an argument. Makhaza police are investigating a murder.”
The police appeal to anyone with information to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
