Principals, parents and teachers have been placed on high alert after a meisie was nearly snatched outside a Cape Flats school last week.
The Western Cape Education Department says they are deeply concerned about the spate of attempted abductions outside local schools and have called for more police patrols.
The latest alleged incident took place at Habibia Primary School in Athlone on Wednesday.
WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says a man tried to snatch a girl as she left the school after hours, but she managed to flee.

Last week, Education MEC Debbie Schäfer sent out an alert to parents following reports of attempted abductions in the Zonnebloem area.
It was alleged people in a white van were trying to drug and kidnap children.
Hammond says security has since been beefed up at Habibia primary while members of the governing body met on Friday to discuss the way forward.
“I can confirm that there was a reported incident that happened outside of the school on 15 August,” she says.
“It is reported that there was an attempted abduction of one of their female learners after school hours. Thankfully the learner managed to flee the perpetrators and will be recei-
ving support. The incident has been reported to SAPS and to the WCED Safe Schools.
“The SGB has urged parents to ensure that they collect their children at the relevant dismissal times for school and after-school activities.”
Parents and teachers may phone the Safe Schools Call Centre to report incidents on 0800 45 46 47.
