Cape Town DJ Eazy has brought Portable Scratch sessions to the Cape Flats and the kids are loving the free sessions with big names in the industry.
The initiative aims to educate and equip mense who want to pursue a career as DJs and also for established DJs to swap ideas.
DJ Eazy says: “At these portable meets, we get to know each other, share ideas and new modifications, share scratch techniques, and also teach those who are interested.”
Eazy tells the Daily Voice the idea is to showcase “how you can actually scratch and DJ with no electricity”.
“This was particularly fun during some of the load shedding schedules. It’s difficult to find a public space that’s welcoming because we don’t essentially just play music, but practice scratching and also teach especially kids who are interested.”

DJs Ready D and Willy, Fiegaro and E20 also joined the action outside the GrillFather in Westridge on Sunday.
Ready D says: “This is a perfect platform to inspire and keep our communities, especially the youth, occupied with something that comes naturally.
“The Department of Arts and Culture needs to step up and support these powerful and progressive projects.”
The DJs allowed learners to use their personal turn-tables.
“The release of the very portable turntables (Numark PT-01 & Vestax Handytrax) makes it easy to take the art of scratching out of the bedroom or studio and onto the streets,” Eazy adds.
