Disgraced TV presenter Katlego Maboe is no longer a nominee at this year’s Safta awards.
Kat’s nomination has been withdrawn from the 15th annual South African Film And Television Awards following public outcry over gender-based abuse allegations hanging over him.
The 34-year-old media personality was nominated in the public-voted category Best TV Presenter against Devi Sankaree Govender, Dineo Ranaka, Palesa Tembe, Katchie Nzama and Waldimar Pelser.
Saftas said in a statement: “After careful deliberation of concerns raised regarding the nomination of Mr Katlego Maboe in the Best TV Presenter Public Vote Category, announced on Thursday, 29 April, the Safta’s jury has decided to rescind his nomination.”
“The rescission is effective immediately and voting code 5 has been removed from the voting USSD line.”
The former Expresso Morning Show host and Outsurance ambassador's nomination was for the SABC 3 production Tropika Island of Treasure Curacao.
Kat, who previously won in the category in 2015 and 2016, is currently embroiled in serious allegations of domestic abuse.
This comes after a video went viral last year in which he confessed to cheating on his ex-lover and she accused him of giving her a STD.
A video of the confrontation, in which he admits to baby mama Monique Muller to jolling, was leaked on social media.
She also accused him of assault and made a case with the police, but Kat denies the allegations.
The former couple, who have a son together, went to court after he allegedly broke a protection order.
Kat, the face of Outsurance’s TV ad campaign, was replaced by Elana Afrika-Bredenkamp.
The Saftas will air on SABC3 on Saturday, 22 May, at 6.30pm.
