Salwaa Smith – Cape Malay Cooking & Other Delights
Method
Braise two large onions, chopped, in a little vegetable oil until golden brown.
Add 1 tsp of grated or crushed garlic.
Add 2 chopped fresh green chillies.
Add a few potatoes and cook until almost soft.
Add about 500g of sausages cut in small pieces. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Add a tin of chopped tomatoes and cook together. Add water as desired.
When potatoes are completely soft add a few teaspoons of sugar to taste.
Serve with fresh bread or white rice.
Any atchar or chutney goes well with this smoortjie.
