Mystery surrounds the discovery of a man’s body at a lake in Retreat on Wednesday afternoon.
Police divers were called to Lakeview shortly after 1pm after residents noticed the body of a naked man floating in the water.
When the Daily Voice arrived on the scene, police vehicles were just pulling up and the man’s clothes were seen stacked near a pole.
Residents, who asked not to be named, claim they saw the man praying at the lake and he later allegedly stripped naked and went for a swim, but never came ou.
As a large crowd gathered around the lake, police tried to find a relative but later said the man was unidentified until further investigations can be made.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirms the incident and says the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are being investigated.
“The body of an unknown male was retrieved from a lake in Lakeview at about 1.20pm on Wednesday.
“Police were called to the scene and found the body drifting on the water. Police divers were called to the scene to recover the body,” says Van Wyk.
Van Wyk says an inquest docket has been opened to determine the cause of death.
