Beacon Hill High will be hosting a matric ball with a difference on Friday, and says anyone who was never able to attend their own matric ball is invited.
They’ve invited former learners of the school who would like to see their old friends, too.
Matric balls are a way for teens to say farewell to high school, but sadly, many parents never had this opportunity, either due to personal circumstances, or larger issues affecting society, such as the boycotts, uprisings, and curfews during apartheid in the 80s.
If you can relate, now is your chance to get glammed up and show up for only R100.
Acting deputy principal Shariefa Gabriels Clark said the ball is open to anyone who did not have a matric ball experience.
“This is their time, load shedding won’t be a problem because we have an inverter, we want to make the evening special for our guests, therefore we are hiring a photographer, DJ, and a few special guest [speakers],” she added.
“It is going to be like a dance and we encourage parents to dress up, show up and have a lekker time.
“The event is not aimed at making a profit, it is about giving back to the community because our parents are so fixated on their own children’s matric balls but this is an opportunity for them to unwind and have fun.”
There will be prizes for the best dressed patrons and a few raffles.
Mense can bring their own platters, however, a harvest table with snacks will be available.
Tickets cost R100, available at the school and at the door, and the ball starts at 6pm.
