Keagan Petersen and his fiancée Michaela Hamner are angry at a tekkie winkel after they refused to reimburse or exchange her Vans shoes.
Keagan says Michaela bought her sneakers at Lace Up Liberty at the Promenade Mall in Mitchells Plain’ but within a month, she took them back because the branding on the back of the skoene had come off.
“She had the six-month guarantee slip with her and was told by the store manager she must come back after two weeks because it needs to be booked in and sent to their head offices,” he says.
“The tekkie came back and she was told they can’t do anything,” said Keagan, who added that the customer service at the shop was poor.
The Daily Voice contacted Lace Up and the store manager, Sameegh Isaacs, who says it was clear the branding had come off the Old Skool Vans because of negligence.
“I have worked in retail for over 10 years. It is obvious there wasn’t a factory fault on the takkie.
“That branding came off because of negligence,” he said.
However, the couple then went back with another defect on the tekkie, this time the stitching on the toe loosened.
“The stitches came loose and we still have our six-month guarantee slip, so why can’t we be assisted?” asks Keagan.
The same process had to be followed and a few days later the couple again received an unfavourable response.
“I requested to see proof that the manager actually booked the tekkie.
“He couldn’t show me any proof,” says Keagan.
When the Daily Voice asked Sameegh about this, he denied saying anything about booking the shoe and added that he just sends it away to head office, or his seniors will pick it up.
When Keagan requested the address of Lace Up Liberty’s head office, it wasn’t provided.
The contact details are not listed either and Keagan now believes that the tekkie store doesn’t have a head office.
