WESTERN Province are banking on the return of their big guns to help them make the final of the Four-Day Series.
Coach Salieg Nackerdien’s manne are in sixth place on the standings with 50.54 points and three matches left ahead of their match against the Titans at SuperSport Park on Thursday (10am start).
Their last fixture in red-ball cricket against the Knights ended in a draw at Newlands in December.
And with key players available for selection, captain Kyle Verreynne says: “I think the team is in a good space. The last couple of days of training have gone really well, we’re sitting in quite a nice position on the four-day log.
“It’s obviously still possible to make the final, so I think the guys are really focused on that.
“We got George [Linde] and Tony [de Zorzi] back now, which offer the team quite a bit of a boost, we really looking forward to the game against the Titans and hopefully the three games after that.”
Verreynne knows how much it will mean to the team to win all their remaining matches.
He adds: “We can still make the final so obviously if we can get over the line in a few of these games and qualify for another final, that’ll be really important for us.”
The team will travel without their left-arm spinner and the team’s leading wicket-taker Kyle Simmonds who suffered an injury in the One-Day Cup clash against Boland two weeks ago.
Verreynne concludes: “We made the final last year and lost in the final to the Lions. So, it’ll be nice to go one step further and get to the final and then win it.
“We’re sitting in quite nice positions in the four-day competition, anything is possible. Hopefully, we can finish it off on a high.”
