Ashwell Prince stepped down as head coach of the Western Province Cricket Association on Thursday.
The former Proteas star led WP and the Cape Cobras from the 2016/17 season and decided instead to take up a permanent role as batting coach for the Bangladesh national team, where ex-Proteas coach Russell Domingo is the head coach.
WPC president Ashraf Burns says: “Ashwell was a tough competitor whether it be as a player or as coach. He has taken many of our younger WP and Cobras players to the next level in their respective careers. We thank Ashwell for his service to Western Province and Cape Cobras cricket and wish him all the success with his new role with the Bangladesh team.”
Prince expressed his thanks to an organisation which has been extremely close to his heart for most of his cricket career.
Current WP assistant coach Faiek Davids is believed to be the frontrunner to take over from Prince at Newlands.
