Several families in Bloekombos, Kraaifontein rejoiced after being gifted portable toilets and a water tank by a non-government organisation.
The toilets and tank were installed on the grounds of the Nkandla Assembly Church by the SOS Poul Due Jensen Foundation, to the cheers of the community.
Now residents say all they need is electricity.
Shelley Humphreys-Webb, a spokesperson for SOS, tells the Daily Voice in addition, they also handed out face masks and sanitisers and biscuits.
HAPPY: Kids receive masks and sanitiser
“We heard about the need for sanitation equipment in this community and came to deliver six toilets and a water tank for the people,” she says.
“It was lovely to see the smiles on the faces of the children and parents when they received their masks and sanitisers and the cookies.
“A lot of people do not have the money to buy these now essential items during the Coronavirus lockdown, that could save lives.”
Misha Morris, the mother of seven children, says they are very grateful for the toilets and water and thanked Shelley for their assistance.
CLEAN: Misha Morris, a mother of seven
“We occupied this land three years ago. We named it Nkandla, the same as (former president Jacob) Zuma’s place in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
“We also don’t have electricity and have to buy wood or go to the fields looking for wood to cook food for our kids. It’s hard to survive especially in winter.
“This was a big surprise, the best was the toilets and water for us. Thank you.”
