Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang believes he is the duidelikste leader in the Premier League and will rely on his “coolness” when they travel to Liverpool tomorrow (7.30pm).
Hunting a fifth straight win in the Premier League, the fifth-placed Gunners are unbeaten in 10 games across all competitions.
Their upturn in form is largely down to the red-hot goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and attacking star Emile Smith Rowe, who return to league action from England debuts over the international break.
Ramsdale has kept three clean sheets in a row, while Smith Rowe has scored three goals in their last four games.
And Aubameyang is keen to keep the youngsters’ swagger going in the team with his unique leadership.
He says of his style: “I’m the coolest captain in the league, maybe in the world!
“To tell the truth I try to be an example, I think that is the most important part of being a captain and trying to inspire the young people in the squad but also the older people as well.”
Aubameyang and his young guns will have to be at their coolest in front of a packed Anfield when they face vuurwarm Mo Salah and his Reds, who will be out right the wrongs of their 3-2 defeat to West Ham before the international break.
That defeat ended a 20-match unbeaten run for Jurgen Klopp’s manne.
But with the Reds beating Arsenal on their last five visits by at least three goals, defender Ibrahima Konate says they are focused on bouncing back to winning ways and keep their title hopes alive.
Of their goals, he says: “Who doesn’t have this ambition to win the Premier League? But for now I think we need to be focused game by game.”
